Ted Uritus A Life of Faith, Hope, & Love

Dear Clients and Friends – Late last year our dear client and friend, Ted Uritus, lost his long battle with Parkinson’s. He was preceded by his wife of 50 years, Becky, who also died from Parkinson’s back in 2020.

Ted’s life is one we want to share with all of you. I (Matt) first came to know Ted when we served together on the board of The Catholic Foundation. I remember being so struck by his great humility, his great faith in God, and his great desire to serve the Church and our local community. Ted lived a life of faith, hope, and love. His love for Becky and their children and grandchildren was incredibly inspiring. His gentle manner, kind smile, and heartfelt compassion for others are memories that I will cherish always. Ted knew what was important in this life and built his own life around those things. Yes, he was successful and accomplished in his many pursuits – but it is all these other attributes that all of us who knew and loved him will remember most.

Todd Walter, Chief Wealth Planning Officer, said, “I’ve worked with Ted and Becky for over 15 years, and it has been such a blessing to me. I’ll miss their friendship and the incredible wisdom they shared. They were both people of strong character and they were such a remarkable team, complementing each other so well. As I reflect on all our conversations over the years, the theme most prevalent in our discussions was their great love for their family. They were very intentional and now the family is reaping the fruit as their children, their sons and daughters-in-law, and their grandchildren are all so incredibly close with one another. Ted and Becky, your beautiful legacy lives on, but we will always miss you.”

Theodore P. Uritus

Theodore Philip Uritus, 84, passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2024, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on October 27th, 1940, and raised in Willoughby, Ohio, a 1958 graduate of Marianist Prep in Beacon, NY and a long-time resident of Upper Arlington, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Rebecca, parents Theodore and Gertrude, and his brother Ronald (Dorothy), and sister-in-law Marghretta “Peg” Smith. He is survived by his children Amy (Joshua) Corna, Matthew (Erin) Uritus, Marghretta “Meg” (Troy) Zimpfer, Theodore A. (Samantha) Uritus, all of Upper Arlington; and grandchildren Julia, Quinn, and Zachary Corna, Max and Eva Uritus, Lola and Luke Zimpfer, and Conrad and Scarlett Uritus. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Julie) Uritus, Denver, NC, brothers-in-law Dr. William Bailey (Barbara) Biggs and Mike Smith, both of Sylvania, and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A 1962 graduate of John Carroll University, Ted was heavily involved in student life, serving as President of the Cleveland Club, Vice-President of the Student Union, a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society, and Captain of the Football team, most notably part of the JCU Athletic Hall of Fame inducted team that achieved the first undefeated season in program history in 1959.

Ted served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-1969, with deployments in Vietnam and Okinawa and member of the 1963 National Service Champion winning Quantico Football Team.

Ted earned his MBA at University of Dayton while working as director of placement and on the football coaching staff. During a long and distinguished career in the single-family home construction industry, he worked for Ryan Homes, Beasley Homes, and Borror Corporation before founding Sovereign Homes and serving as the 1996 President of the BIA of Central Ohio.

An active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, he served as a Lector and member of the Knights of Columbus. Ted will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his family, his welcoming spirit, his strong faith and moral character, and his unwavering discipline. He had a profound passion for the Marine Corps, coaching football and cherished trips to the family ski house in Deer Valley. A special thank you to his long-time caregivers and Capital City Hospice.

The lives of our clients touch us deeply; we come to know them and love them – the result of working with them for many years. We learn what is important to them, what values they live by, the great hopes and dreams they pursue. My goodness, our work is such a privilege, one we never want to take for granted. Ted lived a life of true greatness and leaves a legacy that will inspire his family and so many others. I am deeply grateful to God that our paths crossed and that I witnessed firsthand the life of a true follower of Christ. May he even now be celebrating his risen life with Christ and may the rest of us carry his legacy forward in this life. God Bless Ted Uritus.
