What should our clients and friends know about you?
My wife Lindsay and I are blessed with a richer life then we could have ever dreamed up! We have seven children and are never short on love, joy, and gratitude. Our children are Joseph (11), Evelyn (9), Theodore (8), Ethan (6), Juliette (4), Victor (2), and in April of this year, we welcomed Adelaide to our family, along with a huge passenger van.
We live in Eastmoor, on the east side of Columbus, and much of our life revolves around St. Catharine Church and School. Our community is full of life and we are very active in both the church and school. We serve as marriage mentors for engaged couples, I serve on the church and school finance committees, help with kids’ sports, and other activities and ministries.
I am the youngest of twelve children and most of my family is in skilled trades, so outside of work and community life, I love to build things. As the son of a man who can fix anything, and by trade a master electrician, I am blessed to have been schooled in various building trades throughout my life. Whether it’s renovating my home or helping family or friends with projects, I get so much joy from working with my hands. I also am a little obsessed with golf, but currently, I just fit that in when I can. If you want to play, though, just let me know.
What do you love most about The Joseph Group?
Working at The Joseph Group has allowed me to serve people in many ways. It is a humbling and awesome responsibility to come alongside individuals and families and serve them in a way that, hopefully, can lead them more deeply into a life of joy and meaning. We often say we have the best clients, and we certainly do. We also have an amazing team. The values each live daily attract more great people, both on our team and the clients we serve.
I’ve never dreaded a single day in my 9+ years here. While every job has challenges, and ours is no exception, I know that I have the opportunity each day to work with people who are joyful in and through difficulty, and all desire to be in service of others. While I enjoy the nitty-gritty work of financial planning, that’s simply a bonus. It’s the relationships with my clients and teammates that make my work meaningful.
What does a great life mean to you?
A great life for me is to be focused on serving others, whether that’s my wife, children, extended family, friends, church community, teammates, or clients. That sounds idealistic, but I spent enough time in the narrow gaze of self-service to know that its result was never a good one. The wider gaze of a life centered on faith, family, and those who are placed under my care, where all things are oriented to their proper end, is a wild and awesome adventure. It’s never boring, always exhausting, and full of joy. Practically, that’s going on dates with Lindsay, teaching my kids to build something lasting and solve problems, getting piled on when I get home from work, serving God and my community, maybe even just doing the dishes and not complaining. All these things are gifts, and I hope and pray every day that my life is a gift to others. That’s a great life in the Boyden home.
