Jake Martin, CFP®
Clifton StrengthsFinder®
Learner – Intellection – Responsibility – Input – Restorative
Jake strives to solve problems and help clients feel at ease about their financial lives. He especially enjoys taking complex issues, breaking them into bite-sized pieces, and carrying them through to completion. Jake is a natural facilitator who enjoys building a team of experts around a client to ensure that the client receives the right recommendations that get implemented correctly.
Jake values humility as one of his core life tenets (and his spunky preschooler certainly helps him stay humble). He believes in celebrating the successes of others and recognizing that he doesn’t have all of the answers, but that he can help others find the answers that they seek. This value goes hand-in-hand with his Clifton Strengthsfinder strength as a Learner. He enjoys pursuing new knowledge and information that will ultimately help his clients lead better lives.
As a Certified Financial Planning (CFP) professional, Jake holds the gold standard certification in financial planning. He has expertise in planning for retirement, education expenses, taxes, insurance coverage, and estate distribution. In addition to holding the CFP, he is also a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Columbus Estate Planning Council. Jake spent three years at JPMorgan Chase prior to joining The Joseph Group in 2013.
Hailing originally from Wisconsin, Jake unashamedly cheers for the Badgers. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Wisconsin and participated in the marching band while attending school. His biggest marching band claim to fame involved playing on Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin for the NFC Championship Game in January, 2007 (hint, trumpets and sub-zero weather don’t mix well). Since then, Jake spent some time working for Habitat for Humanity and also lived for a year in Ecuador while teaching English at a bilingual high school before ultimately moving to Columbus with his wife. He and his wife, Chris Donovan, now live in Clintonville with their two daughters, Vivian and Julia.
