Do You Need a Change?

May 1, 2026

To Inspire:

I’m fortunate to truly love what I do – serving clients as a financial advisor has been a true blessing. But I know that others in my age bracket have lost their passion for their job or career. They’ve been doing it for a long time, and they’ve lost their love for their work.

Recently I was on the phone with a friend who is considering an opportunity that would make him an entrepreneur for the first time – and he is approaching 60. We discussed the opportunity and I could hear in his voice that he was excited with the thought of being in business for himself and having the ability to serve his customers in the manner he believes is right and good. He has done very well in his career and could finish his work life where he is currently employed, but he knows he has a unique opportunity in front of him that may not come again. Our firm is going to help him assess the financial implications of leaving his well-paying job to start something from scratch. Is there risk – of course. But knowing how gifted he is, I’m confident that he will be successful. I’ll be praying for him and his wife as they make this decision, and I’ll continue to offer whatever counsel I can.

My conversation with my friend has me thinking about the value of change in all our lives. Are you in a rut in some aspect of your life? Do you need to make a change? Maybe your change is job related but maybe it’s related to some other aspect of your life. Perhaps it’s your physical health or spiritual health. Perhaps it’s a relationship you know needs to be changed. Don’t let your age or other circumstances stop you from considering a change. Would a job change late in your career be something you’d like to consider? Are you struggling to find joy and purpose in your work? Is there a different job or career field where you can see yourself being successful. Don’t let your age stop you; remember that Colonel Sanders began franchising his fried chicken recipe at age 65 – resulting in what we now know as Kentucky Fried Chicken, a leading global brand in the fast-food industry.

Before you decide to change something in your life, assess the pros and cons carefully. Make sure that any change you’re contemplating will not endanger your most important priorities – that of a spouse and parent. Talk with close friends that know you and can give you objective feedback and insights. And if you’re a person of faith, ask God to lead and guide your decision process.

Change offers many benefits – it gives us a new outlook and a fresh perspective on our lives and the lives of those we love. Well thought through change might be just what you need as you consider the next chapter of your life. We’re here to help you as well – just reach out.

Have a great weekend!
