Freedom and Responsibility
July 2, 2026
To Inspire:

Few holidays are more fun than July 4th. Having grown up in Bexley and still living there, my siblings and I love our Bexley parade, cookouts or get-togethers with family and friends and of course the Bexley fireworks.
I trust you too will enjoy time with family and friends. But as all of us celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, let’s pause amidst the festivities to reflect on the many freedoms we have and the great cost that was paid for them. So many have given their lives so that we are able to enjoy all that we have as a nation: the freedom to worship as we wish; to express our views; to advance and celebrate democratic ideals.
Let’s also remember that with freedom comes responsibility. We’ve learned as a nation that freedom is not the right to do anything but to do that which is right: to build up our families and communities and to care for those less fortunate who struggle in so many ways.
Even within our own families we know that depression and anxiety rob us or loved ones of the freedom to enjoy the many blessings in our lives.
Most of us will never be asked to defend our nation militarily as so many have that went before us. But all of us can help those we love to gain more freedom in their personal lives by helping them with the challenges they face – physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc. That too is a freedom worth fighting for!
Have a great Fourth of July. And may God continue to bless this great nation of ours.
