I (Matt Palmer) am just getting back from a four-day trip to visit our daughter, Mary Grace, who is doing a year of volunteer work at the St. Joseph Center which serves individuals and families experiencing homelessness on the west side of LA.  Here is a quick video that shares my experience at their Bread and Roses Café.
